2009 Spring Gathering VII Results
Well,
Another year has come and gone, a new location and a great turn out. I hope everyone enjoyed there time at this years event.
Thanks to all that made the event what it was and all that traveled from afar to join in on this fun weekend.
I am exhausted now, but hope to get photos and results up in the next day or so...until then...

Hey Greg,
Thanks a ton for continuing to organize SG each year. Good times, and I liked the new digs because unlike the museum center we could leave and reenter the parking lot.
Also, great idea to make a pizza run for those who didn't have time to spare!
Awesome prizes, as usual, and all at the ever low cost of $5 for the day.
I always appreciate the chance to play some great players in the "off-season."
Jeff

As Greg requested, heres my AAAv report...
I had two competitive games (one against Jeff Auer and one vs Brian/Rod). Both games started in 1942. First (vs Jeff) was with tech/NO while the second had no tech or NO, but did use the CAP rule for complexes.
I played Axis both games (Germany/Italy while Mike Davis was Japan). Jeff went KGF while Brian went KJF. I thought Brian had the advantage for most of the game, but my germany attacked Moscow (I think it was around 80-75) and took it for the win.
We did not play with any specific victory conditions in mind, just played until one side conceeded.
I think that for tournament play, we have to use 42 (41 is just too long) and 42 is better balanced (without tech/NO the axis can still win).
I'd suggest
1942 version
Axis starts with 8 VC, Allies 10.
Winner is the side with the most VC. Axis wins a tie. Thus, the Axis MUST get a VC to make it 9-9.
Brian had a "per round" VC point theory which I think merits a closer look and more discussion. But I think initially starting the discussion at 9-9 VC is appropriate.
Great to see you all at the gathering.

Hey check this out! Another AA game to be out in August- AA 1942- a hybrid between AA50 and Revised. Word has it that Wizards is under new management and partial to the AA series. Larry says he is working on another "big" project and with AA. He did state that he would work on a new Europe and Pacific combo pak with updated jazz.
AA42 link came out today on AH site
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah/prod/spring1942
This may turn out to be a better game than Revised and AA50!
What do you guys think??

Re: 2009 Spring Gathering VII Results
Greg,
First of all, I want you to know that my brother Evan and I both had a fabulous time last Saturday. It was our first Spring Gathering and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. The experience was made all the more enjoyable by the fact that we both won door prizes and placed highly in the AA Minis Tournament. Even if we hadn't done so well we still would have had a great time! You did a wonderful job. The door prizes and prizes for the Minis Tournament winners were great; thank you very much.
Evan and I would like to thank you for organizing and running such a great event. We'll be at Spring Gathering VIII for sure, especially since I get to be the judge for the Minis Tournament next year.
As far as a recap, neither of us played any of the Axis and Allies board games, though we wanted to; we simply didn't have time with the Minis Tournament.
The championship round of the Minis Tournament came down to me and Kelly Thye.
My army was:
- 2 x Guards T-34/85
- 1 x KV-85
- 1 x KV-1
- 1 x IL-10 Sturmovik
- 1 x SU-76
- 1 x Veteran NCO
- 1 x Hero of the Soviet Union
- 3 x PPSh
- 3 x Mosin-Nagant
- 2 x Communist Partisans
Total: 210 pts. (All-Soviet armies get +5 pt. bonus for every 100 pts.)
Kelly had in:
- 2 x Sherman VC 17-Pounder
- 3 x M4A1 Sherman
- 1 x T-34/76 Commander
- 1 x Early Sherman
- 1 x M5A1 Stuart
- 1 x Ammo Dump
Total: 200 pts.
All the games were great, especially the second game I played against Jason Anglin, which was down to the wire! It all came down to a cover roll which I miraculously made.
Again, thanks for running the Spring Gathering. Let me know of any other Axis and Allies events which you run that Evan and I might be able to attend; I know that you take care of the AA stuff for GenCon and Origins, but I forget which one of those is held here in Indiana in Indianapolis...
Take care,
Alex Wilson

Alex,
Thanks so much for the post, as well as, the kind words regarding the event. It would not be what it is without the support of you and the others that make the trek to play the games. Hats off to you and again, congrats on your big win...
I look forward to next year as well.

Evaluation Results
Guys,
Thanks again for all your support of this years event. I would also like to thank all those that filled out the evaluation forms provided. What I am going to do is list of few of the questions with comments as quoted without names and would like you to comment accordingly. Also, if you didn't notice, I placed a poll for those as a seperate post for location...
Here were the questions:
How did you find out about the Axis & Allies Spring Gathering in Cincinnati?
What was the main reason for attending?
Did you have any trouble finding the location, either ACME Games or the Undercroft at GA? If you attended in the past, did you like the new location better than the CMC?
Where you well informed regarding the events of
the day and what was to be expected? If not, why?
Did you attend the Friday Night gaming session at ACMEGames? If yes, what did you like/dislike about the Friday night portion of this event? Why?
How did you enjoy your overall experience of the Spring Gathering VII?
What are your thoughts on the door prizes, awards, & dealers tables….like/dislike/could careless?
What suggestions, if any, would you make regarding; the structure of the Spring Gathering weekend and how to improve of the overall event in the future?
What I will do is address each question and its response seperately so that someone might comment. Hope you guys don't mind but this is the only way to know what you guys are thinking and how to make things the best they can be..

Suggestions!
Question:
What suggestions, if any, would you make regarding; the structure of the Spring Gathering weekend and how to improve of the overall event in the future?
Answers:
Dancing Girls...
No, real suggestions, great job!
Strippers!
I don't think that anything major needs to be changed at this time...
More pepperoni pizza!
A better mix of playing games vs people you don't normally play. Other than that very, cool...
I wish there were more minis for sale or booster. However, the prices on most of the minis that were available were more then fair...
Thanks,

No/CMC is cooler!
No/Indifferent...
No, I loved the museum...
The undercroft was easier to bring in my various games and goodies. Also, there wan't any of the noise associated with CMC.

AA50
Greg, thanks for another great SG! Tom J. and I had a great time playing the Green brothers. As to AA50 in a tournament, I agree completely with Charles. 1942 with no tech or NO, as God intended. The "most VC" victory condition might need a bit of testing, but something like that seems in order. I am hoping to get to Origins this year. We'll see! Here is the SG article I posted on my blog: http://revolutionboardgame.blogspot.com/2009/04/spring-gathering-2009.html
