2009 Masters Invitational
Greetings gamers,
Currently, the 2009 Masters invitational tournament at GEN CON is slated to be a AAR tournament. What would the thoughts be if we were to move it up a year to AA50/Anniversary Edition? I am open to suggestions.

Peace,
I think AAAv is insufficiently tested, especially for tournament conditions/play. I would suggest the Masters stay AAR for this year.

Re: 2009 Masters Invitational
I agree with Squire. We need to get a lot better at the Anniversary Edition before we start using it for the Masters' tournament.
Also, I got into the tournament by playing well at Revised. I think that if I want to participate in an Anniversary Edition tournament, I should have to get in by playing well at the Anniversary Edition.

Keep AAR for Masters this year
Greg,
I would keep the Masters format as AAR this year. A&AAE looks great but, just as AAR did, it needs tweaking to establish meaningful victory conditions for a 6-hour FTF tournament game. I doubt that even the projection target of 13 VC could be met within 6 hours.
One thing that would speed things up is to play with the national objectives. I just played two games with them, and it was a lot of fun! Every nation has the opportunity to get up to an extra 15 IPC each turn, depending on how many of its national objectives are met at the end of its turn (Italy is the exception, but still has potential to earn an extra 10 IPCs). This extra income potential both motivates players to play more aggressively, and also speeds up the development of the game dramatically. At one point, for example, at the end of the 3rd or 4th round, Japan was earning 63 IPCs!
Jeff
P.S. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, I will be at the Masters this year, so please count me in!

Re: 2009 Masters Invitational
Right now it looks like my wife will be staying at Moody AFB through summer 2010, so I should be able to make this years tourney. Based on that, I vote for Revised. I have no one to play Anniversary against and would be summarily whipped if we played that version.
